The second, updated edition of Intangible Cultural Heritage. A Collection of Documents, edited by Hanna Schreiber, has been published. The book is published in Polish and is also available free of charge in PDF format.
The first edition was published in 2023, marking the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The volume brings together key documents shaping the international and national frameworks for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, including materials made available in Polish for the first time.
The second edition reflects developments that have taken place in this field in recent years. It includes an updated introduction, revisions resulting from amendments to the documents included in the volume, and a Polish translation of UNESCO’s 2025 Guidance Note on safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in urban contexts.
The new edition is also published at an important moment for the development of the legal and institutional framework for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in Poland, in the context of ongoing work on new legislation and broader discussions on the future shape of the national safeguarding system. It appears also in a year marked by significant anniversaries: the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the 15th anniversary of its ratification by Poland, as well as in connection with the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage, celebrated on 17 October.
